Dining will never be a problem in the island of Rhodes. Whatever your appetite is craving for, be it the sophisticated French cuisine or spicy Chinese food, Rhodes has plenty to offer. Even fast food chains are available. So if you are tired of home-cooked dishes, burgers and fries are just around the corner. Most of all, you have to taste Rhodes' local cuisine, including some Greek traditional dishes with just a bit of differentiation. Dishes vary from meat to fish and vegetables.
Few of the island's local cuisine are Hilopites, Mousaka, Pitaroudia, Baklava, Kataifi, and Belekounia. Hilopites is the local version of spaghetti. It is a special kind of pasta with tomato sauce and meat. Mousaka is a Greek dish which is oven-baked. Its ingredients include potatoes, aubergines, and bechamel. It is very popular in the area and tourists often order it as a part of their experience. Pitaroudia is cooked meat with a side dish of onions and potatoes. It is considered one of the main dish in the village of Afantou. Baklava, Kataifi, and Belekounia fall under dessert in the menu. They are some of the local sweets,dripping with honey syrup.
Rhodes is bustling with restaurants, taverns, cafeteria, and dining shops. There are at least 15 restaurants in Rhodes namely Kioupia, Dinoris, Melathron, Paragadi, Palia Istoria, Arhontiko, Elalfi Mithia, Panorama Restaurant, Palermo, Mimakos, Indigo, Mikes, and Filerimon. With a variety of restaurants, you have to consider the specialties served or the atmosphere, or the service. But then again, if you are staying long enough in the island, you could try each and one of them.
One of the most famous restaurants in Greece is located 7 kilometers southwest of Rhodes Town. Kioupia is in the village of Ialyssos. It is like their main goal is satisfy every customer's craving. Most dishes served are Rhodian but there is nothing typical about them. They are prepared with care and precision that makes customers loyal. Aside from the delicious dishes, the crew are friendly and are very accommodating.
A restaurant that lives up to its name—this is one way of describing Panorama Restaurant. Located at the eastern section of Rhodes., it offers a panoramic view that simply takes the breathe away. Dishes served varies from meat to seafood. With reasonable prices and great service, it is one of the dining places frequently visited. It is also the perfect place for a romantic setting.
Mimakos is hard to find but it is worth the trip. Nestled on top of a hill outside Faliraki, the location is intimate and quaint with a picturesque view. The menu has a little of everything—meat, salads, name it, they got it. The restaurant also plays traditional Greek music also known as rempetika. Local wines are served chilled to go hand in hand with the food.
Two of the restaurants in Zefiros are Arhontiko and Paragadi. Arhontiko is a restaurant-ouzeri offering classical Greek dishes. Also, they serve appetizers, locally known as mezedes, like conchs. This is prepared with special sauce and is often paired with the local ouzo. For fresh fish and wide array of seafood, Paragadi is the place to be. It is a fish tavern that provides dishes with appropriate pricing in a wholesome setting .
Rhodes Town has its share of dining areas like Dinoris, Palermo, and Melathron. Dinoris is one of the oldest restaurants in Rhodes. Palermo is an Italian restaurant. It serves pizzas and spaghettis, a welcome change from the Greek cuisines. For a romantic setting, Melathron is the ideal place. It has private rooms so intimacy is guaranteed.
