In order to help preserve the condition and authenticity of the many treasured buildings, sites and ruins of Rhodes, many towns and villages in this Greek island decided to limit the use of vehicles in the island. Smoke and pollution caused by vehicles can further increase the rate of decay of Rhodes’ centuries old buildings and infrastructures and the smoke can also cause discoloration.
But of course, people within Rhodes still need to travel in and around the island, and there would also be things that require transportation. Aside from motorcycles and bicycles, those traveling to Rhodes, Greece would also find the occasional donkey strolling on the roads of Rhodes, often times pulling a cart or with a passenger riding it.
Donkeys have been a very popular for of transportation in Rhodes for many centuries now, and even in this day and age when everything is done quickly through the help of technology, they have survived and continue to prove their worth.
