When many think of the water bodies associated with the Greek island of Rhodes, they would most likely conjure up images of the wide and magnificent Aegean Sea where the island floats like a cork along with other Greek islands. Little do we know that the island of Rhodes, Greece is also home to another, smaller but equally interesting, type of water body. What I am talking about are the natural springs located all over the island of Rhodes in Greece.
If you visit the municipality of Afantou for instance, you would find the Epta Piges or the Seven Springs, a sort of hidden oasis in this small, but intrinsically beautiful and magical island of Rhodes. The Seven Springs of Afantou is surrounded by streams, flowering plans, vines, trees and ravines. Graceful ducks and majestic peacocks also about in the areas surrounding this amazing set of springs. There is also a dark tunnel where you can walk through on bare feet and feel the cold of the ground and hear the dripping of the water nearby creating a most amazing feeling of being the only person in the planet. And when you do exit that tunnel, you would find the glittering springs and you can also relax in the friendly tavern and coffeehouse located nearby.
The Rhodian village of Psinthos is also a site for another exquisite spring in Rhodes called the Fasouli Spring. It is surrounded by large trees and thick, dense greeneries which provides the place with the hush coolness of a deep rain forest or a mountain spring. There are also plenty of shiny, ever-smiling frogs frolicking around this spring enjoying the spray of the waterfalls in Fasouli.
But the Municipality of Kallithea in Rhodes, Greece is probably one of the most well-known in the island when it comes to natural springs. Kalithea is known all over the island as well as in other parts of Greece as a wonderful place to go looking for spas and relaxing baths. You would find courtyards, spas, and baths in Kalithea that exude the vibrance of Arabic architecture as well as the richness of Greco-Italian architecture. Mosaic tiles and lush plants are combined in order to infuse more character and comfort to natural springs found in the municipality.
Other areas in Rhodes where springs can be found include a portion of Rhodes City, the municipality of Attavyros just outside the picturesque town of Empona/Embona, and the municipality of Kameiros called Nymphi Springs.
