The Doors to Rhodes

It is interesting how one can walk through the streets and sidewalks of every town and village in Rhodes and see so many interesting and beautiful old doors standing in the facade of houses, schools, shops, restaurants and churches.

In fact, the variety of colors, sizes, materials, shapes, and inspiration for these doors are so wide and impressive that many professional photographers and tourists enjoy taking pictures of as many of them as possible.

What is so interesting about these doors in Rhodes is probably caused directly or indirectly by the island’s location. Rhodes is situated somewhere between mainland Greece and Turkey, which makes it a meeting place for these two very different cultures. Thus you can probably see influences of Turkish culture in a pointed arch of a door perhaps or Greek culture in a stained glass door found in the same street in the island of Rhodes, Greece.
