Water Polo and Kayaking

As an island resort popular for its beaches, water sports and activities are practically everywhere in Rhodes Island. Water Polo and kayaking in particular, have developed in terms of popularity as more and more people engage in the sports, encouraged by Rhodes' outstanding facilities.

Water Polo is a popular sport in Rhodes. This is made evident by the number of water polo locations that offer the sport and the use of water polo facilities. In fact, water polo has no small number of staunch followers of the sport, with several clubs, such as the Nautical Club of Rhodes and Ygros Stivos of Rhodes having their own water polo teams in low level national divisions.

Water Polo is available in most hotels and sports facilities with pools and equipment. Since water polo is a swimmer's sport, one can tell that the majority of Greek inhabitants have a skill in swimming and treading, and often engage in activities involving said skills. Because of its natural environment, such a conclusion isn't hard to come by. Some hotels that offer water polo include the Dionysos hotel, Mitsis Rodos Maris, Lindos Princess Beach Hotel, Princess Sun Hotel, Hilton Luxury Hotel and Miraluna Holiday Village.

Where Water Polo requires a pool and more controlled conditions, Kayaking is more inclined towards the wild side as it takes place in the sea, and there's a fair chance of getting drifted quite far from the shore if one doesn't keep his wits up. Kayaking in Rhodes is an exciting yet rather risky endeavor, but that doesn't stop people from donning their wetsuits, grabbing their paddles and heading out to sea to fight the waves. Greece has recently held their first sea kayaking symposium, which delves into making the sport a more popular and safer activity. Kayaking is a sport of discretion as a paddle and a kayak is no match for natural force majeurs, so if you're planning to go kayaking on a day when thewinds howl, lightning flashes and the water rises to angry waves, then you seriously need to reconsider. Otherwise, may the force be with you.
